Chené Swart on Storytelling in the Workplace

In western cultures storytelling is reserved for kids only. We start with stories and we end up with facts. Even in relationships. We are confined to thin storylines and wonder that none of these is sustaining and we end up in sinister silence. Storytelling is about enrichment. Enrichment of our lives and the companies we fulfill our work. We have to encourage people to question and to re-author the stories they are living in. In the moment they become active storytellers they become active in sense-making. So, that a story is not befalling us, but consciuosly constructed. This is also part of people`s productivity/engagement in organizational contexts.

So simple, so true.
